Hey Friends! Join Friends of Cabrini for the 4th Annual Downtown Day on July 2026. The day will be filled with several activities and trips to local downtown businesses in Chicago. Hosted by My Block My Hood My City, Downtown Day 2026 will be held July 11, 2026 from 10:00A-3:00P CST. Friends of Cabrini is a partner of My Block My Hood My City for this initiative. Downtown Day aims to bring 1,000 youth—primarily from Chicago’s South and West sides—into the heart of our cultural and business corridors for a day of exploration, belonging, and new opportunities! Downtown Day is about rewriting the narrative. Every Chicagoan deserves exposure and access to what’s possible.

It’s Carmela’s birthday, and her wish has already come true–she’s finally old enough to join her big brother as he does the family errands. On their way to the laundromat, past fields of what Mamí calls “flores de cempazuchitl,” Carmela finds a lone dandelion growing in the pavement. Before she can even blow its puffy white fluff away, her brother asks, “did you even make a wish?” Should she wish for Mami, who works long hours in a downtown hotel trying to make ends meet? Or Papi, a migrant worker who is currently…absent. Join us for a Halloween Open House Tour at the historic Jane Addams Hull-House Museum! Perfect for grades 4–8 (siblings welcome). The tour is scheduled for Saturday, Oct 24, 2026 at 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM CST. We will hear spooky folklore, watch 1920s silent films, and listen to live vintage typewriter poetry, and local history.
